Winter/Snowmobiling Report

December 10, 2007

Hi All

I have been waiting to blow the horn. We finally have good snow !! I put the ruler to the ground and we have 8"- 10 " of good base and more is on the way. The snow we have isn't the light powder kind so your not going to feel every rock like you do with 8" of powder. Trail traffic is very light before the X - Mas Holiday. It looks like this weather is going to stay and we might have good trail conditions for the X- Mas and New Years Holiday.

My friends and I are already enjoying some great ice fishing as well. I have been out 4 times and have done well on the Blue Gills along with a few Bass. My friend Sean and a few of his friends have already had an excellent fish fry this past Saturday night.

A word of caution,  many lakes still are not safe ice. So be very careful and use a ice spud with the 3 spud rule. Try to stay where other have been safely traveling on the ice and don't go alone. I bring a flotation seat with a 25 ft. rope attached in my sled. Also wear ice awls around your neck just in case. I don't know anyone who has fallen threw yet so try not to join the Polar Bear Club. All we have been fishing on is 3" to 4" of ice not great ice by any means.

I'm sure there is plenty of snow at Cabrafe Mountain for down hill skiing ( 45 min. drive ). There is also good cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the area as well.

I'm off to plow snow here at the Lodge and at the cabin for the snowmobilers coming up for the weekend. I have lots of good openings for rooms for the next couple months. Make some plans to come up and enjoy our hot tub and our winter rates.

Please keep in mind that Lake County has 156 lakes. We will update you on the ice fishing when the lakes become safe to fish on.
