Winter/Snowmobiling Report

February  7  2008

Hi All

The snow landed on Baldwin yesterday late afternoon and didn't stop until around 11 PM. There is 10" to 12" of new powder on top of the existing base. I was out in the yard and measured 16" to 18" from the ground up. The snow banks are as large as I have ever had in the last 4 1/2 years I've been here at the lodge. If you are out breaking trail there will be powder coming up over your hood and you could possibly get stuck, it is that deep.

Trails are excellent to great. It is forecasted to be below freezing for at least the next 5 or 6 days. This has been a good riding season, we have had many weekends of good conditions. This is the best so far this season.

Ice fishing has remained good as well. John Robinson and I had a banner day of pan fishing just this past Tuesday. We had many jumbo Gills and some very nice Crappy along with a few larges mixed in but most were better than average. We are going to try to make it out today. All of these lakes in the area hold many good pan fishing opportunities and there are hundreds around (no joke). The most lakes have a good 6" to 8" of ice. Some of the ice is soft but plenty thick.

We have a few rooms still open for the weekend. Please leave a message and I will return your call. I may be trying to take advantage of this snow for some trail riding or on the ice.

Please keep in mind that Lake County has 156 lakes. We will update you on the ice fishing when the lakes become safe to fish on.
