Fishing ReportClick here for previous reports March 8, 2008
Hi All
This has been a long cold and snowy winter. I hope all winter's in the future are like this one. The snowmobilers and ice fishermen have kept me busy. All this snow pack will be great for the lakes and rivers this summer. This is a summary since my last report in January..... cold, cold, cold, snow, snow, snow, plowing, shoveling, plowing ,shoveling... ( you get the idea with a few days of ice fishing and a couple snowmobile rides.
![]() The fishing has been good.
I had a lot of work done to our rooms over the winter. We did ceramic tile in the bathtubs of Room's # 1,2,3. Ceramic tile on all the bathroom floors. Room's # 4,5,7 were dry walled, painted, and carpeted as well. I can finally say all the rooms are now done. Now Done is a relative word because when your in this business your never done, just done for the moment. I can say the rooms are very nice and ready for the 2008 season. ![]() A few Crappy we targeted
The river is in great shape. Some color to the water, little to no shelf ice, and all we are waiting for is warmer water temps to get the fish on the feed bag again. I know we would all like to see the rest of this snow melt off slowly. But the fact remains that the river is going to blow out at least a couple times this Spring. It has 2 or 3 times every year since I've owned the Red Moose the only question is, when?? My Power Drifter is finished and I have been tricking it out for the past couple weeks. I have added power wenches, covers, rod racks, rod holders etc.. The custom boat was built by Leo at Headwater Boats you can reach him at 810-639-4787. The power wench was done by Larry at River Larry's. He can be reached at 231-652-7364. Lastly, the cover was done by Paul at Armstrong Displays, he can be reached at 231-652-1211. These guys did great work and I'm very happy with it all.

Leo and I went out on the Big Man to break the boat in good and proper. We played for a while at the launch, warmed her up and took her out for a spin. She runs, good, smooth, and handles well. Then we had to see if she could catch fish. We decided to do some plugging. On the first run we had a couple slaps but the fish weren't making the commitment. The next run we got one to bite for real. The rest of the runs were slow after that. We had a mix of fronts that day coming in and out. We were out for a 3 -4 hour stretch before we called it mission completed. The new boat smells like fish now. ![]() Leo ( boat builder) Breaking it in
Still waiting on the 16' WF Clackacraft's that John Matson, John Karakashin and I ordered back in January or we would be getting them ready for the guide season as well. My Hyde will be for sale once I have the new boat in my possession. So look for that to be on the market soon and out in front of the Lodge with a for sale sign on it. Then we will work on getting the Clakacraft a fishy smell as well. Can't wait to do that. Maybe one of you will be the first to christen the new boat ??
Skipper from the fly water out of a run
The phones are ringing and some people are planning their trips and reserving their rooms ( don't wait to long). I know many people are waiting to see what the weather and the run is going to be like. Give us a call and make some plans for this Spring. Check out all the hard work we have done this past winter and the past 4 1/2 years we have been here. Looking forward to a great spring run and seeing all of you on the river and around the Red Moose Lodge.. Tight lines
Clint
