Hi All

 

Been a while since a fishing report has been writen. I do write a report during the winter based more on snow conditions and ice fishing. I have completed my pole barn and have most of my stuff moved in. There are a few more storage shelves to complete and some more organizing to do but that will come with time. The driveway is still on hold until everything dries out and warms up enough to pave.

 

The river is in great shape for people who have boats. People that are walking and wading may have it a little tough at the moment. Water levels are dropping as we speak. A good friend stopped by the Weir today and it has recently passed around 2000 fresh Steelhead. Water temps are around 47 to 50 deg. Alot of the fall winter run fish are on the beds and new fish are on the way.

 

The guides that have been going out have been doing well the past couple weeks. They have been taking a few days off due to high water. Most have been working through it and are doing fine. They know where the fish are and have there number. I have done a few trips this March and had to cancel a few as well. I was having some good days before all this high water stuff. Lately I have spent alot of time tying flies waiting for the water to come down and new fish to come up and get this season to really kicked off.

 

This coming weekend, April 1 st,. is the Steelhead tournament put on by the WMU Fishing Club.This is a tournament were college students and alumni have a little fun and get together for some great prizes and bragging rights. Now don't think this is a negative thing for one second. This is a positive way to help keep sportfishing going and get the next generation of fishermen and fisherwomen involved + introduce the sport to new young people in and around campus at many fine colleges. All the river's north of the Muskegon River are game and this spreads out the fishing pressure.
