Fishing ReportClick here for previous reports March 24 th. 2010
Hi All
I can't remember the last time we have had a March like this one. It has been very mild up here. We would like a little rain soon .The river is clearing fast. In the mid sections there is a little color with more depth. Johnny R. and I were in a mid section today and it fished well. We landed fish on both hardware and flies. I had a bright hen smack a wiggler on the swing almost strait behind the boat. Up in the bug water the fish are getting spooky and we have had a bunch of sunny days. Some days the fish are up in the wood and undercuts hiding out. Low light has been best. During the day the streamer fishing has been just ok. I popped a thick 20" Brown on a white bunny leach streamer up on the Manistee last Friday while fun fishing with Tommy L. We had a few others on and some close to the net. On the PM streamer fishing has been slow for me with only a few bumps. The Browns are sporting a fat belly full of eggs. That fat belly makes it hard to chase that streamer down so vary your speeds and get them streamers to the banks.
![]() On the 17 th. had a pluggen trip in the lower PM river. The water was rippen we went 3 for 5 not bad for the conditions. I had Russ and Stacy out for the first time. All the pictures are on there camera. All the fish were fresh run Spring Steelhead. We were in our T- Shirts for a couple hours that afternoon. It felt like 70 in the sun.
![]() On the 18 th. had a pluggen trip With Ken it was a great sunny day. The water was still rippen but dropping in the lower end of the PM. We caught 2 dropbacks both downstream of the weir. Nice not having the power on this year and to see the fish heading back to the lake.

On the 20 th. I had a trip with Victor and Mark they did well with the fly rods. The Trout bite was good and they each brought a Steelhead to the net and a few other steelies on. They were happy about the warm weather. The fish seamed to be ok with it also. Mark was just enjoying the day in one of the photo's watching Victor cast and land a nice Brown Trout. ![]()
On the 21 st. went fun fishing with Jonny M. and his friend Mark. This was Marks first time with a fly rod. He brought a Bamboo 7 wt. and went old school on a Steelhead and landed a clean 6 lb. hen on a caddis. He had that rod maxed out a couple times all I imaged was splinters flying. Johnny and I both tossed a streamer around with out even a follow. You guessed it another bright sunny day. We had other Steelhead on but no others to the net besides a 12" Brown on a wiggler.
Russ and Stacy are back tommrow to fly fish. We Have some great dates open still for March and April for both lodging and trips. Give us a call and I would love to take you out for some great Spring Steelhead fishing. Or enjoy a night at the Lodge. Hope to see you on the water. Tight Lines
Clint
