Fishing ReportClick here for previous reports August 19 th. 2008
Hi All
Here is a quick update. Since my last report in the Spring there is not a whole lot new. I have been out on lake Michigan trolling many, many days. Some Walleye trolling trips around here on the lakes, a few Trout trips here and there roughly one or two a week, and a few bike rides on the hog. That bring us up to date.
In the last week I have been on the lower river system doing my homework. I have taken my wife and son for a few short boat rides in the evenings with about a total of 3 hrs of casting but it wasn't at prime time so it doesn't even count that we didn't have a hookup. What I mean by homework is finding clean runs and where the new wood is and where the old wood is gone and now clear sailing.
Yesterday and today I had 2 enjoyable day with Tom and his wife. The first day was on a mid section of river 1/2 day trout trip. We pitched spinners and with many follows and 4- 6 little ones to hand and many that shook themselves off. As light faded we changed hardware to something a little bigger and caught a 15" and a 17 " Brown and then we pushed out because the casting was getting hard as the light dwindled.
This morning was my first real lower river trip for some kinda real feel of what is going on in the holes. We went 0 for 4 on Kings and went 5 for 5 on some respectable Pike all were 24" to 28 " . None of the Pike were huge by any means but hit hard and put a bend in the rod all the same. By the amount of Pike we were catching reflects to me the absents of Salmon in that portion of the river.
Just add water. The time is right but all we will get is trickles of Kings until we get out of this drought we are in at the moment. The trolling has been great out in front of the pier heads at first light and last light. During the day go off shore to some deeper water but don't get to far from home. The fish want to run but they want the river to cool off some with some heavier flows to set the mood.
Fishing is fishing as they say and the fishing hasn't been bad and will only get better in the weeks to come. Fall will be here shortly are you ready ??? My open fishing trip dates in August are 21,26,27,29 in September they are 1,2,3,5,6,8,21,23,28 October is pretty open with around 10 days booked so far. Book a trip lets go do some fishing. I'm looking forward to some cooler days do come.
