Fishing ReportClick here for previous reports March 13, 2009 Hi All
The fishing outlook is looking very good for this early spring season. We have had a few high water marks due to early thaws. With that we have had some good pushes of fish thru the winter months. Another positive is the Weir at Custard isn't running yet and rumor has it it will not go on line until the water warms to the point were fish will pass, approx. the 42 degree area. That is huge. Hopefully sooner than later that Weir will be out of money and shut down for good.
I have gotten my upstairs project rapped up and the rest of the basement project is on hold until after the Steelhead run is over and the weather turns nice. The bathroom, hall and closet are looking good and done most importantly. Since then I have had time to fish a little this winter finally...
I have been out on the ice a few times and have chipped away at them Gills/Crappy and Perch barely getting 8 to 10 keeper fish. I have had one day just this week were I got my revenge on those gills. It was 3 hours of very steady action and I limited for my first time this season. After I was done with the Blue Gills, I switched gears and went for Crappy with minnows and got a few keepers but no hogs. The lake I was fishing has some 14 " to 12 " Crappy which are very nice to catch.
I have been out on trips this past weekend. Saturday 2/28 I took Ken, Mark, and Victor out. The first day we went fly fishing, on our first stop we hooked into 3 fish and Victor landed one 15 " Brown Trout. After that the little window of a bite was gone at the other 5 stops. I know those other stops have plenty of fish hanging around. We worked on the Indy rig and Chuck & Duck presentations most of the day. We worked the most on trying to stay warm. No one broke a sweat outside that day. You simply cannot put on enough clothes when it is that cold.
![]() On Sunday 3/1 we did a half day plugging trip to hopefully make those fish bite in the ice water we were fishing. Water temps were 34 deg. both days with heavy slush and shelf ice in the main seams. We went 1 for 3 on Steelies and landed a nice bright 6 lb. hen. Just would like to thank all 3 of them for a fun 2 days on the water and comend them on there toughness. The weather was very cold both days but at least the wind gave us a little break on Saturday.
![]() 2/25 I took Vinnie for a half day look around plugging trip we went 1 for 2 not all that hot but it was fun to get way from the fumes. Vinnie was clear coating my hall and bathroom and all the pine doors to finish my project.
![]() 2/23 Took my Father for a quick Crappy fishing lesson. We caught 8 of them these were the biggest 2.
![]() The weekend before 2/21 I had a half day with Jarred and Jeremiah and we went on a plugging trip then as well. We went 2 for 3. The first Steelie was a 22" skipper model that we didn't photo and the other was a nice bright hen at 6 lbs. This day was even worst weather than this past weekend. We had 8 " of powder fall overnight and during the day it was like a huge Slurpee machine with some ice a well. It was popping our plugs out of the water all day pealing off drag hooked onto sheets if ice and balls of snow. I would have never guessed we were even going to catch one fish much less 2 fish that day. That is the way it goes "you just don't know unless you go" These guys were fun as well and glad to have them in the boat.
![]() Well, gotta go. I have an ice fishing plan in effect with John and running out of time. Going to the Big Man tomorrow to fun fish with a friend Steve. My wife will be here when I'm on the water to answer some of your questions and to book rooms and trips. If there is something she cannot answer please leave me a message and I will call you back. We still have lots of openings in the books for this coming Spring so please call and book sooner rather than latter. The cork is coming off the bottle this week with temps in the 40's and 50's come on up a spend some quality time playing in the streams up north. ![]() .
Tight Lines, Clint
