Fishing ReportClick here for previous reports January 11, 2008 Hi All First I would like to say Happy New Year !! Welcome 2008. I hope everyone's new year resolution is to fish harder and more often this year. That is one that is easier to keep than the typical no fun one's like weight loss, quit smoking, quit this and quit that. I for one have been trying the fish harder diet but it doesn't work when you keep dropping baskets of Bluegills and fries in the deep fryer.
![]() A FEW OF THE BIGGER GILLS
Lately my butt has been on a bucket over a 6 " hole on most of the local lakes. We have had some quality ice fishing time already this year. My friend Brad has 4.5 lb. Walleye. Many of us have had some 12" -13" Perch , Crappy at the 11"- 13" range and a few nice gills approaching the 10 " mark with many eater size pan-fish to start filling the freezer.
A LIMIT OF GILLS
On the river out back it was high and just in it's banks yesterday. Today it is 6 " below my cement slab. So it is falling like a hammer and will be fishable for the weekend. It has a great stain up here. I haven't checked below the Baldwin River, but I'm sure it looks a little high down there still but should still be dropping and clearing somewhat. ![]() PETE WITH A NICE FEMALE SEELHEAD FROM THE MO.
This weekend should be good for guys with a drift boat to give winter Steelheading a whack. Wade anglers will want to exercise caution and stay up high in or near the " Flies Only" water where it is easier to wade. Mid and lower sections of river will need a few extra days to drain some more before wading will be comfortable. ![]() A GOOD BUCK STEELHEAD FROM THE PM 1-8-08
I pulled a double header this last Sunday. In the A. M. I was on the lower PM river with friend John Robinson and then went to the ice for a bucket of gills. Those poor Blue Gills had to feel my frustrations from a slow mourning on the river. We didn't touch a fish on the river Sunday. Monday my friend Sean McDonald and I caught our limit of Bluegills along with a Crappy, 2 Bass, and a Pike. On Wednesday I went in the lower river plugging with a friend Chris Reins. We landed a nice buck Steelhead and had one other slap on a plug. ![]() All in all I have been staying busy. I did a few replacement windows for some friends before and after the holidays and ordered a new jet sled for myself for X- Mas. It's a 18' x 54" Power Drifter. So I will be spending some more time on the Manistee and the Muskegon river water's extending my fishing season and range of travel in a day. My wife gave me one of those new Zip-lock Vacuum Sealer for X- Mas and I will say it has worked quite well on the pan-fish that I have been freezing. It doesn't take up much room in the drawer and the bags are reasonable priced. Just a reminder, Wild Turkey Hunting application are due for the drawing. They must be in by February 1 st. I just sent mine in yesterday.
