Fishing ReportClick here for previous reports January 5, 2010
Hi All
The fishing up here has been good in general. I have been spending equal time on the ice and the river. The ice has been in the 4 " to 6 " range. Not real thick but thick enough. The thinnest ice I was on this year was just under 3". It only took 6 to 8 turns for the auger to make it's way through the ice. I have had a few limits of pan fish and a few other good buckets full. Just a few fish shy of limits the slowest day was around 10 keepers.
![]() I went for a float thru the fly water today top to bottom. There was a decent bite despite the cold air temps. There is some shelf ice but it isn't frozen all the way across anywhere. I hit 3 trout on some peacock wiggler's I tie. My friend Tommy today hit a large 11-12 lbs Steelhead on a egg and had a few other trout on as well. Another boat with 3 guys we know hit some fish as well not sure on the landing side of things. I watched them loose a few Steelhead so I know they had battles..I have walked into the fly water a few times in the last week. We aren't smashing them but we haven't been skunked in the last couple outings. This picture is one from the outing before today..
![]() I have been out pluggen as well. I had a friend Chris get a true double 2 weeks ago. He was reeling in the one when the other rod started getting slammed. He finished up sliding the one in the net and grabbed the other rod out of the holder and played it while I was tending to getting the hooks out of the one in the net. Once the hooks were out I slid the other fish in the net with the first male. We went 3 for 5 in that spot before leaving and that was in the first 20 min. of the day at the first spot. The rest of the day was more like fishing/working for them. We bumped into a couple more with a slap here and there but none to the net. Our next trip down there Chris and I hit 3 but the bite was nippy and they weren't owning up to the plug. Just a sunny day and they were just barely grabbing it.. Oh well that's fishing we didn't land any that time out. In general we average a couple to the boat even on slow days pluggen. It is just the fish's way of keeping your respect for them higher.
![]() There is good snow on the trails for those of you that have snowmobiles. Around 10 " to 12 " in the woods and new snow daily . We have our winter room rates in effect with rooms open. I also invite you to take $25 off our Half day guided trips, or a free nights Lodging with a Full day guided trip between now and March 15 th. Come on up and enjoy a day on the river, lake or trails and then come back to the lodge and make a fire in our lodge room fireplace and enjoy sipping on cocoa or maybe a dip in the hot tub that is open all year. There is no good reason to sit at home with cabin fever this winter..
